My Random TV Thread

I'm in Season 5. Love that series.

There's a consistent liberal bent in parts, but it is generally watchable. There was a story arc in Season 4 involving an FBI trainee that was some of the cringiest DEI/feminism I've seen in the show, but they got through it. I think it's funny, well-written (except for the obvious political stuff) and well acted.
They made a spinoff of the fbi character.

Did they call it "left-wing trope?" I hope they called it what it was.

Haven't heard of it before, would be shocked if it made it past one season. That character wasn't believable, or likeable, enough to carry a show on her own.

Sirens on Netflix.

A White Lotus feel, but faster paced and better IMO. It even has an actress from Season 2 of WL, but whatever. The overall cast* is solid, Julianne Moore is amazing, and the supporting cast is great (Jose' steals the show). Minor little twists, heading to an ending which is a coin flip until the last 10 minutes or so. 5 episodes total, so it isn't a huge time sink. If you like White Lotus but hated the pace, you'll probably like this a bit more.

Julianne More stars as Bored Rich Housewife
Kevin Bacon is Detached Rich White Guy
The woman from White Lotus is a Buffalo Bills fan
and Great Value Pam Bondi, aka that girl from House of Dragon, aka Mouth Like a Sock Monkey is the Annoying Little Sister

3.5-4 out of 5 ferry rides

Adolescence on Netflix. This is a weird one. 4 episodes, solid cast, solid writing. The plot is about a teen accused of killing a classmate and what he and his family go through in the aftermath. The characters barely have a backstory which is understandable given the length and we're provided just enough info to see them as everyday humans.

The real "twist" is how the episodes were filmed. Hour long episodes done with a single take. That's right, look it up, one single take per episode. Wild to watch it unfold and how seamless everything flows.

Episodes 1-3 are great, episode 4 is a bit of an emotional kick in the nuts and uncomfortable to watch at times. It is also the one where you feel the most connection with the kid's family and can see yourself as it plays out. "How would I react if everyone in a small town thought my kid killed another child in that town?"

Episode 3 is a banger, the best of the bunch, and just a wild ride. You could almost watch it alone with minimal backstory. The single take and ranges displayed, not to go full "art student" on y'all but the episode is impressive.

Stars are going to sit this one out. Not action, not a thriller, not a documentary, it is a well written emotional juggernaut if you watch all 4 episodes.
