An interesting concept, complete risk avoidance for advisors while host nation militia operates independently after extensive “coaching” in the green zone. It wouldn’t work in a lot of places. Seems in Niger the counterparts are highly motivated…which is huge.

If my team had not gone out on ops with our counterparts, they would’ve disappeared. It’s a credit to the NGSF guys that they’ve been able to instill in their partners the confidence to operate by themselves.

Definitely looking forward to reading the article. I think switching from 3rd Group to 19th and 20th made sense when the mission changed after Tongo Tongo. It's an important mission, but allows 3rd Group to better support global requirements while maintaining their regional expertise.

Kind of regret not getting off AD to join 20th Group though. The Africa mission is complex and exciting.
