NFL time

There are the Minnesota Vikings I know and love. Chicago is more terrible than I thought they were, it pains me to say it… But Green Bay is going to win this division.

...congratulations to Bad Bunny and all of her fancy fooseball friends

The Panthers turn the ball over on their first two possessions to the Dolphins, and manage to come back to win the game. The Panthers are awful, but not Dolphins awful.

Kansas City is 2-3 and Jacksonville Jaguars are 4-1. What a time to be alive.

I don't watch football. Maria likes Bad Bunny, he's a Puerto Rican singer.

Fuckers are all up in arms regarding him singing in Spanish. Don't we have more important things to worry about? Lol.

Fucking bread and circus.
No, it's an in your face move.
Biggest sporting event of the year, and Goodell/JayZ shove a douche up our asses.
Nope.

Bad Bunny to perform Super Bowl halftime…

I wouldn't know Bad Bunny if he or she was sitting in my kitchen right now.
So, I heard some interesting commentary on this topic today from Eddie Trunk (for those that don't know him, he's kind of a rock/metal historian, radio personality, former record company executive, etc).

The question was posed as to why no rock acts have performed at the halftime shows for the Superbowl in recent history. Evidently, some bands, such as Metallica and Journey, have even been quite vocal in wanting to perform. The NFL also had a history for a while of trying to tie local artists to the halftime shows. Being hosted in San Francisco this year and with both aforementioned bands being from the area seemed like the perfect opportunity for at least one of them.

Why? The answer is because, evidently, the NFL contract for halftime shows has been held by JayZ's production company for many years. As you might imagine, JayZ isn't a huge fan/promoter of genres outside of hip-hop, rap, pop. This is the result. We can performs with a much narrower appeal, that sometimes doesn't necessarily seem to align with the typical target audience NFL fan.

Fortunately, the Olympics are taking place at the same time and I can check them out during halftime...or do something, anything else. 😁

That answers so many questions. Too bad, Metallica should have been the natural choice for a San Fran SuperBowl.

Agree.

It also answers the question as to why other popular performers from other genres, like country, have been absent.

So it'd be easy to blame Jay-Z, but he's only been involved since 2019. Aside from the couple of years after the Janet Jackson thing, the NFL has overwhelming been contemporary "pop" acts.

Only 3 of the top 20 shows by viewership (Nielsen) are "rock" acts; The Who, Springsteen, and Tom Petty. They all happened right after Janet. Every Superbowl since Jay-Z got involved has broken the top 20, with the current top 3 being in his time.
I'm not a fan of the acts, but from a business sense it'd be stupid to switch to a legacy act from literally the most streamed artist in the world.

The "local band" is why Green Day got added.
