HOFs have become a joke. Belichick is legend and a HOFer whether you like him or not and whether he gets in or not. There are so many.. Its the same with Pete Rose. It no longer matters whether he gets in, everyone knows he's a HOFer and he'll always be a legend.
Rose bet on the Reds (his own team). Legend yes, but his choice affected the integrity of the game. Do his stats deserve to be recognized, absolutely. But I was always okay with the message that was sent.
He admitted he bet but always denied betting on his own team. If you bet on your team to win, does that matter? Dont know. There's no evidence he bet the Reds would lose. He broke the rules. Regardless, that's the point. His entry to the HOF may be debatable, but everyone knows he is one of the greatest ever. His legend will live forever, HOF or not.
Pete should be in the HOF. It's stupid and petty that he's still not. Period.
I appreciate this. Pete is "the" hometown hero here, and we don't pay much attention to outside noise. We all want him to be inducted, but he'll always be the man here and the Hall Of Fame has kinda become a nothing burger to us. He was born and raised here, and played most of his pro career here. And, what more can you do than hold the record for most hits in a game where hitting is the standard of greatness?
