FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (Sine Pari, May 6, 2008) – The U.S. Army Special Operations Command recognized two Night Stalker supply elements for earning top honors in the Army Supply Excellence competition at the USASOC level.

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment Headquarters Company Supply Office and the Regiment Supply Support Activity (SSA), both located at Fort Campbell, Ky., were selected as the winners in their respective category for 2007. Col. Steven Pelley, USASOC logistics officer, presented plaques to representatives of both sections during an informal ceremony here on April 30.

“This is a very significant achievement in anybody’s career,” said Pelley.

This is the second year in a row the Night Stalker SSA has won the USASOC competition.

“For logisticians, it’s a good day when a customer’s not complaining,” he said. “It’s not very often we actually get the opportunity to pat somebody on the back and give them praise for what they’ve done.”

But winning this award is not the reason these Soldiers conduct business the way they do.

“I guarantee you that the reason these guys worked as hard as they did was not to get this award, but to ensure that the Soldiers they support, that the organization and mission they support, is conducted as flawlessly as possible,” Pelley said. “They are contributing to the war fight on a regular basis.”

Pelley said that the Army holds this competition every year recognizing the best units in logistics throughout the entire army, within specific functional areas. It encompasses all Active, Reserve and National Guard components.

Once selected as USASOC level winner, the supply elements are nominated to compete at the Department of the Army level. In 2006, the SSA competed and was selected as the runner-up for their category. This year, they competed and were selected as the winner of the 2007 Department of the Army Supply Excellence Award recipient for the Class IV category.
