FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (USASOC News Service, June 10, 2011) – The Soldiers of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment welcomed a new command sergeant major with the ceremonial passing of the Regiment colors.
Command Sgt. Maj. Gregory Chambers assumed responsibility of the Regiment from Command Sgt. Maj. David Leamon during a ceremony here June 8.
As the senior enlisted advisor to the Regiment Commander, the Regiment Command Sergeant Major is responsible for carrying out policies and standard of the performance, training, appearance and conduct of the Soldiers and noncommissioned officers in this one-of-a-kind unit.
Chambers, who becomes the Regiment’s 10th Command Sergeant Major, recognized those responsibilities and the importance of his Soldiers.
“Our number one combat multiplier is our soldiers,” said Chambers. “Without them and their hard work it would be hard for us to get anything done.”
Chambers, a long-time Night Stalker, most recently served as command sergeant major for 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR.
Col. John Thompson, the 160th SOAR commander, praised Leamon for his leadership during the last two years.
“At a time in the Regiment’s history of unprecedented growth and nearing 10 consecutive years of combat operations in multiple theaters around the world, we needed a strong and experienced senior enlisted advisor,” he said. “Dave Leamon was absolutely the right choice for this formation.”
Leamon, who has been selected to serve as the first command sergeant major for the new Army Special Operations Aviation Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., reminisced on his tenure.
“Having the most dedicated officers, NCOs and Soldiers have made the last two years pass much too quickly,” said Leamon. “Without a doubt I am leaving the best job in the Army.”
He closed by speaking directly to the Regiments Soldiers.
“Most of you joined the Army in a time of war, I am extremely proud of how much your efforts make a difference on the battlefield. You inspire all of us each and every day,” said Leamon.
