Hello Folks I'm hoping someone may send a bit of knowledge my Way.

Do they consider applicants with a medical waiver for airborne school and Rasp ?

I have an 11x contract and was not able to get OPT 40 because I have a medical waiver and was told that the decision is up to the doctor down at Ft.Benning.

I had a knee Operation done in 2008 on my knee ( Arthroscopic Surgery ) It was a minor procedure with no major findings or Torn ligaments of any kind, Which I fully recovered from and am now awaiting departure later this year.

The doctors up at my local MEPS facility recommended that they consider my waiver and I went from a 4 in my PULHES rating to a 2 and everything else are rated 1's

As far as my recruiters are concerned they just say "I don't know"

I just want to know If I would have a chance to try?

Nevertheless, Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your service to our country.

A recruiter saying "I don't know" probably means in reality "I dont want to do any more work for you, I already have your signature on my quota list".
Even though there are some good recruiters out there, so many are lazy/liars/dirtbags that you simply cannot trust recruiters IMO.

Ask the Rangers yourself... http://www.soc.mil/75th%20Ranger%20Regiment/recruiting.html

I agree with you pardus, there are a couple Recruiters at my local office that seem like stand up guys, Well the infantry guys. I guess I never thought to ask one of them about it. Other than that I go up there to PT with them. Anyways Thanks for the link, I'm sure I would've stumbled across it sooner or later.

But better sooner than later! Take care.

If its still the same way it was, not happening.Once your in you can volunteer by speaking with the Recruiter on Sand Hill, Regiment itself will give you a shot, but actually picking up an Option 40 with a med waiver has a been no-no recently. Things change all the time but the Army is still drawing down. @goon175 would be your best bet outside of emailing like Pardus suggested.

Ok, understood. Yeah unfortunately I was not able to get it in my contract. Which I was told prior to my Signature that it was not possible. I already emailed the 75th Recruiting team and am awaiting a response. I was lucky to even get an 11x contract.

anyways Thank you for the information, I really do appreciate any knowledge I receive up here.

Yeah you won't be able to pick up the opt. 4 or 40 or an MOS requiring Airborne (18x, 92R) with that kind of med waiver. Once you are actually in it should not be an issue at all. Just make sure your PT score is north of 270 and you meet all other requirements.

Much appreciated goon

Since I do have a medical waiver on file I was under the impression that I wouldn't even have a shot because I was not able to get it in my contract. I appreciate the Clarification.

As far as the other requirements I meet all the standards they put forth.

One more question, Can I simply volunteer for the Course or will I have to be selected via my PFT score?
