FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Feb. 3, 2009) – Effective Feb. 2, the Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne), of Fort Bragg, N.C., has official been re-designated as the 528th Sustainment Brigade (Airborne).

Today, Soldiers from the newly-renamed brigade will begin wearing a new distinctive unit insignia, beret flash and airborne wing backing on all uniforms. A new shoulder sleeve insignia and brigade colors are currently in the approval process.

The unit plans to uncase the new brigade colors at an official ceremony scheduled for later this year.

Along with the name change, the brigade will be assuming the lineage of the 528th Support Battalion (Special Operations) (Airborne), which was activated Dec. 15, 1942. The battalion has a long history, seeing service in World War II, Vietnam and the Gulf War.

The brigade will continue to serve in its previous role as the only organic sustainment and support unit within the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
