Not sure if this is its own thread or better somewhere else, but SCOTUS is hearing Louisiana vs Callais, a challenge to Section 2 of the VRA, questioning the constitutionality of race in drawing maps for representatives.

I have been following on Twitter, and holy hell, the comments have been predictably entertaining. And Justice Jackson? A pure, 100%, unadulterated moron:

"Just trust me on this"
"They (black people) don't have equal access to the voting system. They're disabled."

Her basic legal argument is "just trust me, bro."

The NCAAP attorney arguing isn't doing any favors, either: "white democrats were not voting for black candidates."

If part of Section 2 is overturned, the democrats could lose 20 seats.

So I said this earlier to someone: what's the difference in that versus a republican in a democrat district? The answer was, this is race and based on the VRA. My response: OK, what if that republican was black? Their vote would still 'not count.'

But if we want to play that game, whites and Latinos are disproportionately underrepresented in southern California, parts of Texas, and parts of Mississippi. If they 'correctly' gerrymandered those districts it's possible the republicans would pick up seats.

It's not hard to dismantle the argument.
