FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, June 11, 2012) – The commander of 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) will host a ceremony recognizing the valorous actions of 42 Soldiers while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
The ceremony will take place on June 14 at 1 p.m. in the J.F. Kennedy Auditorium adjacent to the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School building.
Capt. Timothy Driscoll will receive the Silver Star, nine Soldiers will receive the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device, 13 Soldiers will receive the Purple Heart, and 24 Soldiers will receive the Army Commendation Medal with Valor device.
The Silver Star is the third highest military decoration that can be awarded to a member of any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
The Valor device denotes those individuals who were awarded a decoration in recognition of a valorous act performed during direct combat with an enemy force. It may also denote an accomplishment of a heroic nature in direct support of operations against an enemy force.
Col. Mark Schwartz, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) Commander, will host the ceremony. Lt. Gen. John F. Mulholland, U.S. Army Special Operations Commander, will present the awards.
