The brown water navy and Tet

Great article.

I took this pic in Dec 1970, on the banks of the Song Vinh Dien. But this was up in I Corps. This was the closest I ever got to the Navy. It's an SVN PBR with an American advisor aboard (white T-shirt amidships) and a mortar tube aft.

Seriously, they're loud and you can hear them coming upriver long before they reach your poz...and in my opinion a big fat target. The only way out of the kill zone is full throttle or a bend in the river.

Boonie hats off though, to the guys that crewed them.
