I was at their museum in Whales and I picked up a copy of the battle, written by the unit historian. Great read. Free as you said, "quite a memorable anniversary".

Isandlwana was a massacre due to the Brits making the fatal mistake of placing their troopies too far from the main column and placed singly at about 50 meters apart. They were cut up individually by Zulus who were drugged up like lab rats on the local rug of choice.
