United States & Gun Control discussion.

Knowing what I do and have seen, I'd put in for a PH resulting from a TBI. No judgement on those who aren't, but that's a legit injury and you have a "gift" that will keep on giving for the rest of your lives. We don't have enough data as yet to know where you and by extension your families will be over that TBI in 5, 10, 20 years.

Something else to consider, if not for yourselves, but in general: metrics. Some data nerd will look at PH numbers, TBI numbers, all of the numbers, and correlate TBIs resulting in PH's and whatnot. Those numbers will go into a study at some point and by not self-reporting you're unintentionally skewing the data.

One outsider's perspective. No more, no less.

If I wasn't 20+ years removed from it with a paper trail vanishing by the year, yeah, maybe.

RE: studies, it's a thing, and 'they' are still trying to get a handle on it. Unlike a gunshot would or IED injury which is binary (you have it, or you do not) TBI is on a spectrum and the mechanisms of injury are on a spectrum and the sequalae are on a spectrum. It's a hard thing to put into numbers just because of the sheer number of variables. I do not envy the researchers.

When I was retiring from active duty - 2016/2017 - the discussion came up at the mTBI clinic while I was doing retirement prep. The process that was described could easily be characterized as complex and time consuming considering there were multiple events, various time frames, and little to no actual documentation of "invisible" blast injuries. There is probably more folks that are impacted by service related mTBI's than you could shake a stick at. I'd also imagine that an effort to "identify" all of the legitimate PH worthy mTBI claims would damn near overwhelm the system considering how quick people are to take advantage of an already imperfect system.

It is one of those things that might never see "clean" statistics considering how many folks there are that just aren't interested in going through the "headache" of formalizing the documentation and recognition. Couple that with how many folks are just straight up full of shit and seeking some path to more click on their 'VetBro' Ewetoob channel and you have a mess of a research challenge.

You are dead on with the gigantic challenge that researchers have ahead of them trying to make sense of the "real" statistics. I do not envy the researchers at all. You have to love what you do to become immersed in this kind of research.

I cracked my dome piece on Sicily DZ in 95 (loss of consciousness and vomiting for a day), also fractured my left ankle/tib that required reconstruction.

Do I qualify for a PH? Cause the only thing I received from that was a case of moderate to severe retardism and minor OCD.

Sounds like pre-existing conditions to me. 0%.

;)
