FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Nov. 21, 2008) – The U.S. Army Special Operations Command announced today the names selected for the 2008 USASOC Medics of the Year.
Sgt. 1st Class Eric Strand, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), was chosen as the Special Forces medic. Spc. Rotha R. Dornes, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, was selected as the Special Operations combat medic.
Twenty two nomination packets, consisting of a two-page recommendation from the medic’s supervisor and chain of command endorsement, were submitted for review by Command Sgt. Maj. Parry Baer, USASOC command sergeant major.
On Dec. 14, Strand and Dornes will receive recognition for their selection from the USASOC Surgeon’s Office at the annual USASOC Surgeon’s Conference in Tampa, Fla.
Additionally, on Dec. 16, the Special Operations Medical Association will select one medic as the USASOC Medic of the Year during their annual Mess Night, which is held in Tampa Bay, Fla., in honor of all fallen Special Operations Warriors.
