Move to Alaska, you hear about what they do almost everyday in the paper. They are definitely one of if not the first line of rescue up there.

Within and up to the 20 mile limit, and on any navigable waterway in the US, the USCG is the monitor and guardian... Now look at the coastline of the US, including the shores of all navigable rivers, lakes and manmade waterways... That's a friggin big job for a small and underfunded service.

That's why they use the Aux so much.
And, the bodies of water generally have to be interstate or CG won't cover it.
