I'm currently an active duty Air Force captain assigned to Air Force Special Operations Command.
Grew up as an Army brat. Dad told me, "Anybody that's been in the Army 20 years will tell you to join the Air Force." Saw Top Gun too many times; wanted to be a fighter pilot. Spent four years at the "Blue Zoo" folding underwear into tiny squares and making my bed in way that nobody should ever have to... ever. Got a ride in a Strike Eagle as a cadet, decided F-15Es would be bas ass. Graduated (barely) in '07. Selected pilot. During pilot training, our scheduler (former Viper guy) talked about how awesome it was to be a fighter pilot; circling around at 25,000 feet dropping bombs on people.
I decided that wasn't for me... wanted to be more in the fight. Selected helicopters.
Got assigned to the HH-60G Pavehawk out of Fort Rucker. Some of you might recognize our combat callsigns "Jolly" and/or "Pedro." If you saw "Inside Combat Rescue" on NatGeo, that's us. Spent three years and two deployments doing combat rescue. Probably got more action than I bargained for on some days. Hard to complain about bringing guys home alive though.
This time last year, the opportunity arose to transition to the CV-22 and AFSOC. Decided that might be fun. Rose my hand. Spent a year doing the CV-22 transition. Now headed to my first AFSOC ops assignment.
And... that's about it. Nice to be here. Hope to learn and maybe contribute occasionally.
