My potential class date was Nov 27, 2017, but I got injured in October and was not fully recovered so I did not accept the contract. Everything I've seen here and elsewhere says to not leave injured so I took that advice. This morning, I spoke with the recruiter who said that the earliest date for 18X was March 19, 2018. That's all fine and dandy. If that's all there is, then I'll take it, but hearing about both an October class and November class, it just seems curious to me that there is a 4 month period between the classes. I would just like to hear from those in the know or anyone going through the process to see if there is potentially an earlier class that my recruiter isn't telling me about.

Think about all the logistics that goes into planning purposes. They first need to find you a bootcamp slot, next AIT, and so on and so forth. There are only so many slots per class. The Army doesn't want to pay you and lose contract time on you to sit around. That is not a very good return on investment.

I understand that, and that with this contract, they have to think about Airborne, SFPC, and SFAS iterations that have to line up. However, they also have don't have 2 month reset periods between those classes (let alone 4 months) so I was also curious as to whether they are trying to decrease the amount of 18X contracts or if something is going on with the program.

Hey, I get that. I didn't ask for anyone's slot, and I sure as hell wouldn't give up my slot for someone else. Just asking some questions that I guess may not even have answers.

If slots for that period are full, then you wait until the pipeline schools align...with open dates. I totally understand your questions and frustration, but there are a lot of moving parts and you may never know the answers.

The good news is, this gives you a taste of Army life before you leave for Basic.
