I was a Marine Corp Reservist and activated for the Gulf War in 1990. I was a 90 day reservist. I went to boot camp 21 May to 17 August 1990. I was a college kid. I went to Norwich University. My unit was out in 24 hour stand by on my first drill in October and we were activated in November. I went up to my Company Gunny and told him I'd not been to SOI. He told me not to worry about it. I deployed with another 4/5 guys in the same boat. I learned recently about Marine Reservists deploying to Korea for that War with out going to boot camp! One was a MOH recipient. I was the ammo man in a three man M60 team. Following our deployment I had orders to SOI. I spoke to the Company 1STGT and he said BS and wrote OJT 0311.
