Anybody have any insight on these damn NJ drones flying around all over? I read at least one article quoting a Republican Senator that a LE source said they were seen coming from the ocean. Another said a CG ship was "followed" by a group of them.

Dry run? Hysteria? AQ? Russians? Group of weirdos with lots of cash to waste?

The government says it can't do anything about the drones.

But it also can't or won't tell you who the drones belong to or their source(s). If it could at least do this, then... there are penalties for shooting down the drones.

If it can't cite a source, what's the greatest charge here? Discharging a weapon in a residential area?

If you don't know where it came from, who sent it, and it isn't under the control of the FAA via published air traffic control standards? What charges do you face for blasticating it out of the sky?

Agree, the government, at least the state/local government, should try and figure out what the heck is going on. FAA has some regulatory laws for un-registered drones. State/local laws have laws for firing weapons in the city, which can get more severe if someone is hurt or reckless...etc.

I have yet to see any attempt by federal/State/Local to get closer to these drones with helos....

This is going to get out of hand if it is not seriously addressed. How long before some drunk guy opens up on a Cessna coming in for a landing at the local airport?

AND....why isn't anyone knocking them down with EMP typed devices? There are handheld devices designed for counter-Drones in the civilian market.

Theoretically, a drone has the same flyover rights as a helicopter or other low flying aircraft. But a drone can fly in your bedroom window. There’s got to be a point where a drone ceases to be protected by FAA rules and becomes an intruder.

If it's what I think it is and it's not something piloted by people, well there's weird stuff stuff all over and stories that go back generations. By this, I'm talking about whatever is coming out of the sea and stalking coast guard vessels. If it's something run by people, then hypothetically steel birdshot will mess with something delicate like the rotors and bodies used by normal drones.

I will share a funny story though. Long time ago in Iraq, I had to take a SUAV down because there was something in the sky (our ROZ). Never felt so angry and terrified before. Like I've felt calmer getting shot at or clearing a black road, in the turret of an up-armored 1151, than whatever this was. Whatever it was, I've never wanted to kill and lash out more in my entire life. Ended up fucking back to the inner compound after things got weird. The guys guarding the gate didn't hear the buzzing noise, but heard me raging at the sky. So yeah... there are weird things out there.

On the other hand, we have about a month until we have a new government in office. If I were a betting man, I'm guessing that a bunch of traitorous individuals are trying to cover their tracks by blowing up a hidden, but regularly occurring phenomenon. Either way, Booker and his ilk can get fucked.
