Not "light" reading in that it deals with a plane crash that killed Carole Lombard, her mom, and over a dozen others. Lest you think the book's title is a bit macabre, "Fireball" is what she was called by many who knew her.

At the time of the crash, Carole Lombard was the wife of Clark Gable and herself returning from a War Bond drive shortly after our entry into WWII. The book is well written with an interesting format: every other chapter is either a bio of Lombard or the events leading up to the crash. Once those merge, the book details the recovery, investigation, and aftermath.

A nice change of pace, I like to mix in a biography or memoir now and then. Fireball is a very good book if you're into Hollywood's Golden Age.

Up next...more pirates and some WWII naval aviation. (I read one book at work and one in my room before bed...in case you're wondering how I'm cranking these out)
