How Stuff Works: US Navy SEALs

Uhh.....

http://science.howstuffworks.com/navy-seal15.htm

Fast-rope and rappelling techniques require helicopters to drop SEALs by way of a rope to their location. Fast roping is a drop technique whereby a 50-to-90-foot (15-to-27-meter) rope is dropped from the helicopter, and SEALs slide down the rope using a Swiss seat harness. To brake, they apply their hands in a towel-wringing motion -- using their feet to brake would damage the rope.

Now I know what that Ranger was doing in the "Damn" video: saving the rope!

The Ropes now are a better quality, we were taught not to use our feet at all except as a guide. I never did one time!

now how does the swiss seat come come into play (not)}:-)

Well they're obviously using either the biggest munther or figure 8 you've ever seen. makes me curious though. Might try that on our practice rope in the bay...i'll write from the hospital later.
