Hi SS,

I stumbled upon this forum while searching on Google and have been a guest for a while and figure it is time to start asking a few questions and make an account.

I am 21 years of age and am joining the Navy. I recently received an SO contract and will be shipping in late November.

Prior to this, I was a professional race car driver here in the states and have learned a great deal about operating in high stress (relatively speaking) environments. In my very humble and novice opinion, racing is extremely similar to other forms of activities that pertain to the military, especially SOF's.

I am excited to learn more about the individuals on this forum and keeping my eyes and ear's open and mouth shut!

Thank you all in advance for any and all help!

Welcome. Really? Similar to S.O.F. Did you have to do a selection course / program including multiple years of training to race cars sir? Please don't take this as being a wise ass. Just wondering...

F.M.

Thanks for the Welcomes.
Firemedic,
Thanks for the reply. Actually yes too both. Not all, but a few series that I raced in did have a selection course required to participate. Stages such as actual driving (duh), technical feedback, public relations/interview capabilities. Beyond that it is mandatory in almost any series/division/category, that you have certain licenses before participating. The only way to obtain them is by years of competing and building a resume and submitting that to the governing body. Unfortunately auto racing in this country is more about politics and money than actual talent, but thats a different conversation.

I hope I did not leave the wrong impression that my comparison was direct and that what I did is supposed to be 'bad ass' and exactly like being an SOF member.
