I'm currently assigned as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer at McConnell Air Force Base. I've always been drawn to the special operations community...especially the PJ community. One of my classmates in college became a CRO and served with honor until he was KIA in 2010. I remember his incredible work ethic, larger than life attitude, and crazy fitness level, but he was also humble. I also have a close friend who recently completed the Combat Control pipeline as a STO. He started in maintenance like me, so it was pretty cool to watch him progress.

I haven't always wanted to join special operations. In other words...I never felt like "I was born to do this", or "Ever since I can remember, I've wanted this"...etc. I have just been drawn to the community and know that I would give it my all if given the opportunity. I learned a little about PJs while I was in school and read the book "That Others May Live" which really got me interested. I've always been confident with my fitness level and I do some of the things on my own that special operators do for their job...rock climbing, sky diving, scuba diving, running, strength training. Obviously, I don't have any combat experience, but I would think many recruits are in the same boat.

I initially joined the AF to fly fighters or A-10's. That did not work out due to color vision issues. I have a mild green deficiency, but it disqualified me for FCI/II/III. I became more interested in special ops once I found out I couldn't fly...mostly because I want to be doing something outstanding and my current job is just not the right fit for me. It's not bad...but I want to be doing something more.

My main reason for signing up for this site is to find out what the no-kidding rules are for color vision and special ops. My understanding is that FCIII is required for most jobs, but there may be waiver possibilities. I would like to learn more.
