Jussie Smollett thread (most recent updates on Page 4)

something tells me the media will let it die off quietly.....

I think they will still milk it for all its worth, and maintain the "Jussie as victim" narrative.

I'm particularly interested in seeing that Empire does. I hope that they cut slingload.

Interesting take on which hate crimes are national news and which are not.

Indeed, the narrative the Left wishes to push is that America is deeply discriminatory and bigoted, rife with hate. But by statistics, Jews are by far the most likely group to be targeted in America on a per capita basis. This is a problem for the intersectionality-oriented Left, which sees Jews not as victims but as part of the power hierarchy in the United States. How can the Left uphold its hierarchy of victimhood if Jews are the chief targets of hate crime – and furthermore, if such hate crime is largely perpetrated by non-white supremacists, people who supposedly lie higher on the victim hierarchy than Jews?

Furthermore, Jews are inordinately successful and well-treated in the United States; outside of Israel, there is no more philo-Semitic country on earth. So if Jews, the most statistically victimized group in America, aren’t particularly victimized, what does that say about the narrative of America as racist, bigotry-ridden hellhole?

The United States is an amazing place. But the media and much of the Left don’t like that narrative. That’s why they cover Jussie Smollett. And that’s why they won’t cover Jews being attacked on the streets of New York.

On January 29, Two Hate Crimes Occurred. The Media Only Covered The Fake One. Here's Why.

That was an interesting read. I read the article and watched the video, but it was unclear to me that the featured attack was based on antisemitism. It could have been an attempted robbery. The victim could have been targeted because he was white. He could have had issues with one or more of his attackers previously. Or he could have been targeted because he was a Jew. Based on the available evidence I don't feel comfortable making a call other than to say it's pretty clear he got assaulted, and not the Jussie Smollett style of "assault."

As far as the coverage goes, it doesn't fit the narrative. It seems the only time attacks against Jews make news is when it's carried out by someone who is white, or when people assume the perpetrator is white. I remember a huge uproar against "white supremecists" and "Trump" when a downtown synagogue was vandalized last year. It died down quickly when it was discovered that the perpetrator was a gay black Obama volunteer who had been taken in by the Jewish community. Oops.

At least that guy did end up getting charged with a hate crime though. Many times it seems that Jews, being perceived as "white," aren't going to get much sympathetic press. This is plainly evident when even yelling "Allah, Allah" and "Kill all the Jews" doesn't get you charged with a hate crime in NY.

@Marauder06 i thought the victim looked Hasidic (based on clothing) and allegedly two are in custody but couldn’t find details.

Separately, I saw this on the web:

When the truth is on the table and Chicago police can stop pretending they think Smollett may be a victim, remember one thing – this was an attack on everyone who thinks Donald Trump is not Hitler. Keep that in mind as you see Smollett’s story crumble into the pile of lies that it is. It was all based on a lie fed to Smollett his whole life: that America is a racist, homophobic place. Sadly, the perpetrators of that lie will go unpunished.

I agree that he looks ultra-Orthodox. However, it's not clear to me from the evidence currently released that he was attacked because he was ultra-Orthodox. It's correlation vs. causation.

That's a great quote, but I think it's only half true. The author neglected the truths that are also at play: that generally speaking, you can attack, vilify, and hate conservative whites in this country with impunity, because they are the only socially-acceptable group to do that to. And to do so gives you social standing, money, sympathy, and attention, and you'll almost never face any meaningful consequences for propagating it.

Make no mistake, there was a hate crime involved; Jussie Smollett was the perpetrator not the victim.

I'm beginning to wonder if fake hate crimes are starting to outnumber real hate crimes in America.
I know that this is the hilarious take to have in the wake of the Jussie Smollett incident, but it bears repeating that extremist killings were up 35% last year, and nearly all of them were linked to right wing extremist groups Extremist-related killings in 2018 'overwhelmingly linked to right-wing' movements: ADL

The lefties may like high taxes but they have a low body count. Maybe we’re too busy manufacturing hate crimes to shoot up a Cracker Barrel?

I should say that this is not meant to knock conservatives, or conservatism in general. It’s just that there was a marked increase last year in extremist-related murders and the murderers, due to whatever factors may have been present, were almost always associated with right wing groups.
