Good Afternoon, my name is Lawrence and I’m currently a 0621 stationed in Camp Lejeune. I’m currently a PFC and was looking to attend A&S once I achieved the rank of Corporal. For now, I’ve been training on my own and swimming, running and lifting. I’ve bought (even though I knew I shouldn’t have, was just curious what the course looked like) SOCOM Athletes MARSOC workout plan. However, I’m not that good of a swimmer so I wondering if there were anybody on here to help me out. Thanks!

Look up Jeff Utsch (Streamlined Performance). His coaching on techniques is world class. The in person class is insanely expensive (like $1,500) but you will become so comfortable in the water.

Also, you should be able to get free swimming lessons at the base pool. Google MCCS Lejune Swim lessons and you will see what classes are available coming up.

It’s been way too long since I went to MCIWS, but part of your job after graduating is to teach basic combat swimming techniques to Marines who otherwise aren’t amphibious. If you want to get good at swimming before A&S, try to see when if your battalion has any slots available to attend MCIWS. You need to be a proficient swimmer before you go though. Otherwise your life will suck and you probably won’t graduate.

www.fitness.marines.mil/water-survival has video instructions for free as well.
