Next week, President Barack Obama will award former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Clinton Romesha the nation's highest award for combat valor for his actions in repelling a deadly insurgent onslaught in Afghanistan in October 2009. He is the fourth living recipient to receive the award for service in Iraq or Afghanistan.

I remember this COP. I remember it specifically because I couldn't figure out what the fuck it was doing there in the first place. I honestly wasn't surprised when it got overrun, and I truly feel sorry for the poor souls who inhabited that place. That's a tough spot to be put in.

We've placed our bases near population centers/ villages....which are sitting on blue lines and not dominant terrain; we instantly ceded control of the high ground to the bad guys.

Yeah I know why they did it, but I don't know WHY they did it...if that makes any sense.

Yet another example of how the attempt of using conventional forces/tactics in order to implement the COIN strategy, has caused pointless deaths. It reminds me of "Inglorious Bastards," when they have the discussion about fighting in a basement...

I'm embarrassed to knowledge that I have no idea of this battle nor this COP. I thought this guy was present at The Battle of Wanat when I started noticing things that differed from the original Wanat story.

Did this even make the news? I would have remembered 8 US KIA...
