Well I will chime in here with some background on the MEB as I was there from 2003-2006 with several different units. First off, nobody just says they were with 4th MEB unless they were in admin or leadership assigned to the MEB command element. The MEB was comprised of five specialized units focused around anti-terrorism. There was Security Forces, MSG (Marine Security Guard), CBIRF (Chemical Biological Incident Response Force), ATBN (Anti-terrorism Batallion), and FMTU (Foreign Military Training Unit). Whenever anyone would say who they were with, it would not start with 4th MEB. It would be 1st FAST, MCSF Co Gitmo, CBIRF, etc. Depending on when he is saying he was with the MEB, he would have been in a regular line company who got attached to the MEB because ATBN (the infantry battalion of the MEB) was not started until late 2004. Prior to that it was rotated between other line units; for example the assigned unit in 2004 was 3/2 Mike Co. Also, my only knowledge of the MEB having grunts in Afghanistan was in 2002 (long before ATBN stood up) to reinforce the embassy in Kabul (I believe this was 3/8 Lima Company). With him not willing to give up any info, I am willing to bet he is someone who was in fact with the MEB (probably got kicked out of Security Forces) and was never injured or deployed. Though some people think that the MEB was SOF, it was far from it. Lots of high speed training but extremely low speed missions. So to an outsider looking in (someone never in the military but spending all their time on armedforcesmuseum.com/top-ten-most-elite-special-operation-units-in-the-us-military/) , perhaps he thought they made the SEALs their bitch, but in fact we were the SEALs bitch. SEALs really did/do laugh at FAST (fake ass seal team) (okay, everyone laughs at fast) so yea. PM me a name if you want and I can see if I recognize it or know someone who does. I know a few former 2nd Mar Div SS instructors who were at the school sometime around when he claims to have been there.
