STUTTGART, Germany – U.S. military personnel will participate in Exercise Shamrock Key 2006 from April 17 to 29. The training consists of a series of joint military exercises conducted among theater security cooperation partners in the Baltic region of Europe.
The exercise is an annual event, and planning for this particular exercise has been in coordination for more than one year. The primary participants this year include military units from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Norway, and the United States. Other NATO Alliance partner nations are also participating in direct or advisory roles. The principal purpose of the training is to ensure all nations continue developing partnerships and further enhance capabilities to protect their borders from terrorism. The training will take place in three countries: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Participants will be training on an extensive range of skills, including airborne operations, ground combat, security operations, small-unit tactics, land navigation, marksmanship, human rights training and training on the law of land warfare.
This exercise will also help participating nations plan and execute command, control and communications systems in support of future coalition operations.
