Yup. Covey and Nail (OV-10’s) were a gig for experienced Team Leads. Those guys were spoken highly of in every account I’ve read or heard, saving a lot teams.

I think Nail was out of Nakhon Phenom (sp?). John Meyer’s SOGcast is an amazing resource for MACV-SOG knowledge.

The Command Control guys were next level badasses. I know today’s SF soldiers would step up given the same environment, but damn…

The man was in Vietnam for like ten years...he was still there when I was, 70-71, doing HALO jumps...and 30 years later he's still humping gear in Afghanistan. What a life.

A legend. He came to every Q course class and gave talks and discussions to the students, and then separately for the officer classes. A servant of the nation to his last days.

Sorry to read about the loss of the Sergeant Major, but feel very fortunate to learn that he lived and how he served.

We all served in some capacity, but…sometimes you read about men who redefine what that word means.

If I was still working, I would’ve been there. I was at every CENTCOM/SOCOM/Base presser and ceremony from Desert Shield through the ‘03 invasion of Iraq.

I’m so isolated now I didn’t know about until my wife came home and asked me if I knew who he was. I said: Jesus Christ, I hope to God you sent a crew over there to cover it…thankfully she had.
