Hello all, I successfully secured an 11b Option 40 contract last night. Couple of questions, I ship for basic in about a month, which does not give a great amount of time to improve my PT scores. Push ups: 60. Sit ups: 65. 2 mile: 15:00. I guess my questions would be, will I be able to improve scores in Basic training? Also, would it be in my best interest to possibly delay the date of shipment if possible? I am going to work my butt off this next month but I would like to be able to max PFT by the time I get in. Any thoughts?

You can improve in OSUT, you will probably need to work out alot on your down time, but you will improve even if you just do the normal go along to get along.

I would really work on push UPS, sit UPS, pull ups and try to get into 6 min mile group for agility runs. It will kick your ass, but you'll be better off for it.

Good luck.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice.

Those aren't bad scores and will improve drastically during OSUT. Don't worry too much about that most semi athletic and dedicated guys, even if they aren't Op. 40 or 18x, usually come out of it with around a 230-250 APFT. So do some extra push-ups (good form) in the bay before sleep and get in some pull-ups after chow and you should be solid.

As far as getting a 300 from where you are now in a month? I highly doubt it you need to cut 2 mins off your run. That's the main thing holding you back. Do not over do PT this last month. Run a couple miles in the AM, do some push-ups pull-ups and sit-ups after that and alternate in a sprint work out once a week. That is more than enough to get you ready. Do not try and change your ship date- you will be fine. Focus on moderate improvement, not getting hurt and having fun with your friends and family before you leave. Good luck and don't quit. 30th AG will be worse than anything else you do in this pipeline.

Thank you for the input. As quoted on the forums here, I think as long as I work my butt off, stay focused, and most importantly never, never quit I should be alright.

Good luck. Half the battle is showing up. In the ability group runs, you need to find your way to the A-group eventually. It will help push you out of your comfort zone tremendously... Just be smart.

Will keep that in mind, thanks.
