The Afghanistan and Pakistan Thread

I saw reports of at least 3 Rafales shot down. Oof.
Impossible... because remember Cope India and their impressive 9:1 kill ratio? Pepperidge Farms remembers. India owns the skies...and that was before they had Rafales. Clearly these reports must be incorrect...or maybe 🤔

The only entity more responsible for the fuckup ending of the war in Afghanistan than Joe Biden is all of Pakistan. I won't even PRETEND to support them against India.

I'd be far more likely to got to India to kill Pakistanis than I would the Ukraine to kill Russians.

And that still won't make me return. On second thought, hear me out...

Ahhh, what a world we live in. Just a matter of time before a new conflict pops up while all the others continue. WW3 is loitering somewhere...

Philosophical question: at what point do we go from a bunch of regional conflicts to calling a bunch of regional conflicts to be "World War 3?" they are related, but they aren't. They have proxies, but don't. Ukraine/ Russia is financed, supplied, or directly supported by the US/ NATO, China, and NK. Iran is backing the Houthis and Hamas, both of whom are attacking Israel. The Houthis have attacked the Saudis, Emiratis, and the US while being attacked by the above plus the UK recently. The US/ NATO have supplied arms to both India and Pakistan as have the Russians and Chinese while the Pakistanis have supported or allied with the US AND China over the last 20 years.

Africa is multiple layers of stupid by a bunch of parties including the US, France, and China.

At what point does this Venn diagram overlap enough to consider us in WW3? You could argue this is way hotter than the Cold War, but just short of direct superpower on superpower conflict which I guess is the breakpoint for a "world war?"

Just a little spitballing going into the weekend.

I think the superpower vs superpower directly with operations in areas controlled by supporting belligerents is probably the line.

I think the Cold War was pretty hot. Korea, Vietnam, USSR in Afghanistan, count all the "anti-commie" stuff in South America/Africa.

Wars happen all over the world all the time. We just don't really talk about them, see Africa.

But as Cookie said, without two significant powers slinging direct punches at each other it's hard to call it World War 3. Now, I would say the Ukraine-Russian war is a major one, the scale of death is high. This conflict between Pakistan and India could become one especially if a ground campaign commencing. Dogfights and shelling positions does not a war make.

It feels like "WW3" in the current lexicon is just a cute little moniker for "nuclear war" - because isn't THAT what people are really worried about?

Otherwise - most of the last 30 years could have been correctly labeled "WW3" with all of the folks shooting each other across the multiple theaters and multiple countries and multiple militaries all shooting at each other for 'resinbs'

Nobody cares about "war" - for fuck sake - we love good war.
We fucking LOVE it.
We are ALL looking for another wave of those 500 dollar-a-day PMC jobs.

Who here wouldn't like to have an excuse to buy the latest kit and some new gadgets that can be written off your taxes as "work expenses" while getting to travel the world and participate in this weeks newest best-est "thing"
...as long as nothing is "glowing"

That's the key - how do we cover the globe with high paying defense contract jobs without causing anything to become radioactive in the process?
Proxy wars.
Proxy wars ALL OVER the mother fucking place.

Think of all those god damned retired Flag Officers that will be able to pick up a "Consulting" job as they pretend to be a civilian clad division commander in a 3-Piece suit.
Think of all the "Fox News Contributors" that will start getting paychecks because they "used to be" an operator in the last war?
Think of all those retired full birds that will get to finally walk around 'the battlefield' in civvies with a Gucci rifle and some Merrill Sawtooth boots?
Think of all those haircut-nazi E9s that can finally grow a beard and pretend to be an operator...
...as long as things dont start glowing.

No sirree - Its only "WW3" if there is an associated mushroom cloud.
