The Trump Presidency 2.0

My old company commander eventually made GO. I found him to be one of the most repulsive human beings to ever wear a uniform. Some of the things he did to me and others pooped all over the notion of being an officer, gentleman, and a professional. I found him to be a petulant, tiny-dicked bully who shouldn't be in charge of anyone...but he picked up a star before he retired.

I know some folks who swear to this day he is a good guy and they didn't see what some of us saw. He showed them one face and some others saw something different.

Both perspectives are true, or can be. I'm sure to members of the GOB club he was a rockstar. To some outside of that circle who he helped or treated fairly, he's probably still a rock star. To those of us who crossed him through faults, or none, of our own? He's a shitbag.

Perception is reality.

I was a flag aid for a 1-star, I knew her when she was a commander and captain. She was who she was in public and private, helluva officer. Great person. But I got to sit in a lot of meeting with a bunch of other FOGOs and many of them were either schizophrenic or had MPD (multiple personality disorder) because they often presented themselves in different ways, depending on the audience. We (FOGO staff) would chat and get the skinny. Most of the FOGO staff didn't like their boss. I was lucky in that respect.

If the Chief of Staff is going to force and investigation, that's also political and ridiculous. It's kinda like how the Russia Gate investigation was run out of FBI HQ. Like what are we doing.

I think there's some misunderstanding with the alleged dispute between SECWAR and the CSA.

The investigation was at a "lower" level (Brigade/Division). As discussed, it's not an uncommon thing to happen in the aviation world.

The issue is the SECWAR getting involved and undercutting the lower level commanders. That's what the CSA apparently took issue with.

One great thing about where I work is not one of our skippers will make FOGO. They go into the gig knowing it is their last ride and when it is up they head into the sunset as an O-6. They don't subject us to any fuckery in an effort for another promotion because they know it won't happen.

Maybe SecWar was fucking with someone he didn't like or respect, knowing the blowup would happen.
Maybe he said ignore the stupid pilots, and the Army made a very public 15-6 announcement so he made a public fuck you to folks he doesn't like.

There should have been no announcement of a 15-6. Do we publicly announce every 15-6? No we don't. Otherwise we should put Lt Guapo on blast for his Staff Sergeant wrecking a Gator and then trying to get it fixed off-site at a civilian dealer. Mind, Lt Guapo's platoon had 6 HMMWVs that were FMC, but they liked using Gators instead even though they tended to break one every two weeks.

The military publicly announces investigations and firings all the time, especially when they come after national news stories. We've got whole threads devoted to it.

Idk why some people are acting like this is an unprecedented thing.

Just because we do it doesn't make it right.

I can agree with that, to a point. There's a difference between how often the Navy announces firings for "lack of trust and confidence" and things that enter the news organically.

We could switch to a "no comment" policy with events like this, but I'd think that removes the services' ability to control narratives.

I wanna make sure I understand you here.

Do you mean investigations into majors and captains?

If so, the first one that comes to mind is good ol' Nebor aka MAJ Jeff Poole.

I'm sure their are others. Again, rank doesn't matter once the story breaks into major news.
I want to make sure I understand you here.

The article on Major Poole happened after a CID investigation and a Separation Board.

These are not the same as a fly by. You want to treat a fly by the same as someone who has already been recommended for separation?

What are we doing.

Announcing relief of a maneuver unit commander of BN and above equivalent is way different than what we're talking about here. We're talking about publicly announcing an investigation into two dudes who flew past a house.

In regards to the Chief of Chaplains being fired...well, makes plenty of sense to me.

Man, I don't know how to be more clear that national level news stories get comments from services, regardless of ranks involved. It's not just two dudes who flew past a house, it's two dudes who misused military equipment and violated airspace regulations/laws. That's a big deal when the public is involved.

You know the Chaplains service more than just Christian soldiers, right?

I was a private in 2009 when the spiritual fitness test would flag people as non-deployable if you weren't spiritual enough. It changed around 2011*. The SECWAR's personal religious viewpoints should not play a factor in how the Army Chaplain Corp decides to address the spiritual fitness of their troops.

If you think it should, you're telling every Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Atheist, Agnostic, etc soldier to get fucked.

*Sorry I don't have a less contentious link, but this was the only thing I could find in the ti.e I was willing to dedicate to searching it.

We're clearly just going to disagree here.
