So... has anyone here applied for the VA's Veteran Readiness and Employment Assistance Program? I was told it could help pay for "School" and or vocational training for employment as long as you have a min of 10% Disability rating with the VA. I am an EMT but am looking into getting my Paramedic/ Associates and was hoping it might help. Thanks!

Im not sure what chapter I did, but after I exhausted the post 9-11 GI Bill they extended me for a year on Voc Rehab.

Paid for a worthless masters.....

There was a few interviews and they have you show that there are potential jobs with the degree you earn. The 0671 Health System Specialist job i was after basically disapeared at the GS-7/9 level during the pandemic, and local health department and low level admin assistant jobs pay less than what I make now so I did not use my training.

It was an easy process though.

Some vets get 12 extra months of college benefits under new VA rules

TLDR:

If you served two periods of service and had to give up Montgomery to use Post-9/11, you may be entitled to 12 more months (up to 48) of education benefits.

I just got the email stating I might meet the requirements; imagine plenty of us might also qualify.

VA is going to review everything over the next 22 months, so it might be a while.

To touch on this, and for posterity sake. I used my entire Montgomery GI Bill+ Army College Fund, then got the post 9/11 extension, which allows for an additional 12 months. I then also received a STEM extension. All told I received 72 months of GI Bill coverage, and received a Bachelors and Doctoral degree free of debt. Coming into my career debt free is a catapult to a different socioeconomic class. Everyone should utilize every penny available to them.

I received the same email. Honestly, I'd go back to learn bits of a trade.

If you need help navigating VR&E let me know. Send a DM so I get the email notification.

Justifying that your current disabilities impact your ability to work with your current skills is key. And that your education plan will provide a path to employment bar your disabilities.

Im doing an MBA from a top 15 business school. All 180k of it is covered. I know some post 911 people who are having to cover the difference one term per year because it goes over the post911 limit.

Additionally, VR&E covers all educational related expenses. If you can justify the need because of a disability, or through a syllabus requirement, or even have the school programs program manager write you a letter, your VRC is supposed to cover it. You shouldn't pay out of pocket for anything. Also the VR&E chapter 31 monthly stipend gets replaced with the chapter 33 BAH if you have any chapter 33 benefits leftover.

The VRC(counselors) will vary by who you get. Most had a social workers masters sponsored, and are on a education work/tuition deal. Theyre basically case managers. Deal with 150 cases a month. And some are looking to get fired and out of their tuition sponsorship deal.

But once you're found entitled. It's pretty smooth sailing. Then you can save your post911 for your kids/beneficiaries if you put them down. Or for beekeeper school
