I've thought long and hard about the question, but -

I understand (at least I believe I do) why great men immerse themselves and become part of the warrior culture known as the military, SOF in particular. To my knowledge, the only men who make it into the community are those who joined for the right reasons, and had the heart to make it through every trial and tribulation thrown at them.

But, what makes a man who served many years in his unit, and has committed completely, finally decide that his time as a member of the teams is over, that his cup is finally a full? What can drive someone to get cold feet once they finally make it in?

What is waiting in store for tomorrow's warriors, besides the brotherhood and flames of war?

People have various stages and various desires during their lifetimes. Warriors choose to fight different "wars" at different times during those stages. Priorities change...families with children come along, goals and personal missions are accomplished, etc.

You could probably get a 100 different answers from a 100 different people...the same way that there are a 100 different reasons why people enlist.

There's always a reason to get out, ARES.

You have former military in your Close Family Friend Circles; your should ask them this question.

You are waaaaayyyyyy overthinking this for a 14 YO.

Men change, people change, circumstances change....

things change. Life changes.

Go do PT.
