Cool article about the 400ft long Japanese Sentoku type sub that we deliberately sank off the coast of Hawaii after WWII.
I was aware of the late war production Type XXI "Elektroboote" subs the Germans produced, with only two ever seeing wartime service. I believe they were sunk off the coast of Ireland postwar after their crews surrendered, but have never read anything on this massive Japanese type that is double the size of the German XXI.
The X-400 could store and catapult launch up to 3x Aichi M6A aircraft specifically designed to attack the US.

A few Type XXI's are around, but only one survives; the others are dive sites for very experienced divers. Only one Type XXIII has been located, U-2359. Three Type XXI's survived the war in a partially demolished bunker...before the bunker was filled with gravel and covered over with a parking lot. Nicely done, German gov't.... Assholes.

Wiki, but with some good links.
