Another Marine recruit dies...

I hate when things like that happen!

Many times, there are underlying health issues that no one knows about and aren't discovered until rigorous, physical training becomes involved.

Sad story!

Found dead in his rack. Who knows. At least this one didn't "fall".

A few years ago, after I got my commission, a couple nurses in our unit did some time at the Beaufort Naval Hospital to augment for the "summer surge." They had some recruits come in with bacterial meningitis, one died. This would have been...2008ish.

Yeah, boot camp--like school, or a college dorm or a homeless shelter--is a wonderful place to share cooties.

It is sad to hear of the recruit passing away.

I do have to take issue with the stirring headline, at this point, of a "Third Major Incident". I am having trouble seeing this as a "Major Incident", unless they can back it up with a homicide investigation. I would love to launch into a media rant........:-x

Rapid-Spreading Infection Kills Marine Recruit, Sickens 100

In 2002 when I was in boot several recruits died, one from a form of strep throat type A. It got to the point we honestly got to make a phone call home and say we were alive. One recruit in my platoon got meningitis, almost everyone got pneumonia (including our Senior DI). Some of us were lucky enough to get it twice. I scored my worst PFT ever during the last PFT before graduation. I am 6'2 and graduated weighing 145lbs soaking wet.
