Charlie Kirk shooting -

Shocking, horrible, disgusting.

The most significant though? Charlie Kirk was an influencer. There have been multiple federal judges, a US Ambassador and a sitting congressman in the last 50 years. There are monthly school shootings in this country. This is murder, but it isn’t the most significant shooting in the last 30 days.

I agree it wasn't the most significant but he was a VERY significant influencer for one side. I dont think you'll see conservatives on campus in the future and that's not a good thing. Universities already pushed back against it and now they have legitimacy. This is one way to shut down free speech on campus.

The last event we saw like this was MLK Jr. MLK was an influencer . I'm ok to be wrong, also ok if you save this to prove me wrong.

I imagine this is how "we" would feel if Reagan was killed by Hinkley.

Define significant. Is it position, age, status???

Does the reach of an influencer mean less than a federal judge, congressman, etc???

If so why??? I'm emotional, and I'm trying to temper those emotions. But my question stands...why???

Because the only link I can see is influence or status, and Charlie definitely had the influence. So is status now the new barometer???

I just want to cool off what I hope is some hyperbole.

I mean, is it significant because he was famous for owning libs? I don’t find his death more significant than the death of kids in a church, or a school, or the murder of an insurance CEO or the assasination of elected officials in Minnesota. Those are as significant to me. This is a huge story, and a terrible tragedy, every murder is. I’m just saying let’s calm down the hyperbole a bit.

Hold on dude. Are you putting Charlie Kirk up the with Martin Luther King Jr?

I know nothing about UVU; maybe they literally have an ER on campus? Could be possible there were some people (attendees/security) that got some trauma response background.
The SAR Show shooting several years ago? I was first on scene to treat and was within minutes instantly relieved by a trauma surgeon and her ER doctor husband, supported by off duty EMT's. It's rare but is possible.

Why not? Obviously not the same, but very similar. Both were very religious, both preached non- violence, both believed in respectful discourse. They were both martyred, maybe for the same reason, maybe not.

When is the last time you have seen this much coverage of a controversial public figure being shot much less killed?

The problem is, none of those people have the resources to do what needs to be done. Kirk needed to be in an OR, probably within the minute of being shot. It doesn't matter who is on the scene, his outcome was sealed.

I saw as much coverage of the United Health CEO being assassinated.

I don't find his death more significant than dead kids either. Murder is murder, as you said.

But for you to say he was most famous for owning the libs, seems to fundamentally misunderstand who he was and what he wanted as a person.

Charlie identified a fundamental problem with today's society, and he called it out. Whether you want to give him the same status as John brown or not is your prerogative. But I do, and I think the impact will be similar.

I think most of my liberal friends on facebook dismissing this with some random bit commentary on gun violence or comparison to something unrelated are just coping with the fact that they are actually celebrating his death. reminds me a bit of the "but what about the children?!" argument and it's really messed up. I suppose if their only exposure is through a lens of hate in political opposition, you can't see someone actual impact. Look at the crowd that was there to see him and every other venue. He was a positive change to re-instilling discourse on campuses that had been bastions of leftist fascism for years.
