DHS Apparently Hiring in DC

Holy shit. That is a whole lot of GS11$-$15 oversight. A thousand people to get started on the cases filed over the new immigration order.

I'm curious exactly what issues/visas they'll start working. USCIS has several months of backlog on most immigrant visas...

As an example, if you did the right thing and stood in line to file for an H-1B back in April, they're just getting to it now (Vermont Service Center times). And that's markedly better than their normal performance...

Living in this area is VERY difficult on GS11 pay.

Depends on how far you want to commute. When I was hired by the man I was lacking a degree so they started me as a GS5. You want to talk about eating the proverbial shit sandwich. That shit still pisses me off to this day...

Oh I agree with that. Earlier this year I was looking to move out there and went real estate shopping. :-/

ETA: Like @Totentanz I'm wondering what these positions are meant to take on and at what cost. "The initial workload will include cases filed as a result of the executive actions on immigration announced on Nov. 20, 2014." That could mean lawsuits filed on behalf of @pardus alone.
