Hi current active duty navy and looking for guidance in my path to a green beret. I had a few questions which i’m hearing different things from different recruiters and I was coming here for clarification on that as well as just trying to find good numbers for the pipeline.

1. Can i sign as 18X with prior service or is that only for no prior service?

2. Is there a specific weight you would reccomend? I know it sounds silly but for example SEAL training, most people try to arrive much over 200, wondering if it’s the same here.

3. Is it true the 18X contracts are full until next fiscal year? or is that only dealing with rep-63 ones?

This last one is kind of off topic but i’m an e-5, will i get placed in a different room from other trainees in osut and/or the pipeline?

1. Even if you are doing an interservice transfer, you will enter the program as an 18X until they assign you a specific MOS.

2. I don't recommend a "weight". I recommend focusing on a high degree of fitness. If you weigh 205, bench 315 and squat 405 but cant pass the PT test or meet your ruck march times it will all be for naught.
In fact, I didn't weigh 200 pounds until a few years after I retired and started to take on the shape of a D'Anjou pear - and I passed SFAS and the Q' on my first try - because it's so easy that even @Box can do it
Run, ruck, and make sure you can max - or "almost" max - the PT test that they will give you when you show up - and don't worry about "bulking up" - instead, concentrate on finishing whatever task is at hand.
Don't concentrate of not quitting or not getting selected - if you are worried about that, your mind isn't in the right place. You aren't going there to quit - in fact, you really aren't even going there to "get selected" - in your mind you should be going there because it is just the first step of your journey.

3. 18X contracts are never "full" if you are trying to come on active duty and go to the SFQC. If a recruiter is telling you that, talk to another recruiter.

It doesn't matter what rank you are once you ruck up and truck out to "Pineland"

@Box pretty much covered everything, but to add on from asking my SOF recruiter:

As a non-Army prior servicemember you are eligible to enlist as an 18x.
Prior army that are airborne 11B can do 18x in the Guard.

3. Is it true the 18X contracts are full until next fiscal year? or is that only dealing with rep-63 ones?

Active duty- never

National Guard- Yes but actually no. Sending dudes/dudettes to the pipeline is an expensive process, and some states don't like having an excess of people in the pipeline. Some NG recruiters may not want to do all of the work required when it's easier to tell you "Rep63 is full, go infantry first".

i appreciate the help, i’m interested in active but i’ve been trying to do more research. I love the mission of green berets but also eod. I’m overseas near just marines and navy so i’m not sure how ill find a recruiter who is willing to help me with the paperwork to transfer directly after my contract is over.

Thank you for the info i’ll definitely try to find a recruiter who is willing to help me out since i’m so far out.
