...of all of you. I lost brothers and friends years ago and know that kind of grief. I still feel it everytime I hear or read about one of you getting hurt or paying the ultimate price. I am so grateful for young Americans who choose to serve their country at a time when service is voluntary, and even more grateful for those of you who sweat and strain and beed and push yourselves beyond your limits to reach the pinnacles of your profession. Thank you all.
I was a Marine infantry NCO in Vietnam. I served with an advisory unit to ARVN militia during the early 70's, and worked closely with US Army Rangers. I was wounded and medevaced during a firefight on April 24, 1971 but was able to return to duty after a lengthy rehab. In the next few years I instructed USNA midshipmen squad organic weapons at the Naval Amphib Base at Little Creek and attended the Army's Jungle Warfare School at Fort Sherman, Panama. I also served at Gitmo and Pendleton.
