Israel and Iran

I don't even know what it would be, but I would have liked to see a symbolic strike related to the 1979 embassy attack/hostage situation. Like, if we attack North Korea I'd like us to drop a bomb on the USS Pueblo (or, if we REALLY want to flex, steal it back). Another example: Israel destroyed (maybe? there's some dispute) the "doomsday" Death to the Jews clock in Tehran.

We don’t negotiate with terrorists yet we are negotiating with Iran. Why? Fuck Iran.

I would never negotiate with terrorists and certainly wouldn't work with them or provide them with weapons.
God bless America,

I am reaffirming that the United States government will not make concessions, such as paying ransom, to terrorist groups holding American hostages.
As President, I also have to consider our larger national security. I firmly believe that the United States government paying ransom to terrorists risks endangering more Americans and funding the very terrorism that we’re trying to stop. - B. Obama

I agree with you, but our national policy has been to say one thing and do another for about 40 years. We'll have another mini war (Tanker War BITD) and move on so our kids can do what?
Negotiate with Iran.

I've long said we invaded the wrong country in 2003, yet people still cling to the idea that Iraq was a threat to the US...

I contend that Saddam Hussein was a threat, just not the threat we said he was, and our policy of containment was working fine at the time, so yes, wrong war/wrong time (through benefit of 20/20 hindsight admittedly).

I liked Reagan. I came of age during his presidency, he'll always be one of my favorites. That said he was just as hypocritical as any other politician and his positions regarding Iran and terrorism reflected that. It wasn't all his fault, he had some terrible advisors which made things so much worse.

We also thumped them so hard they stopped being a threat to US shipping. We thumped Iran so hard we had to hit them again and again, impose sanctions, release money to them, etc.
This goes back to a discussion we've all had many times on the site--"give war a chance." If two sides are committed to fighting and there is never a clear "you got your ass kicked" victor, the conflict is going to go on interminably. The reason we are partners/allies with countries like Germany and Japan is that we kicked the ever-loving shit out of them before occupying and rebuilding them in our image. We also made sure they didn't have neighbors who were unfriendly to us, who could provide sanctuary and let the war go on forever. We had Gulf War 2 Electric Boogaloo because all we did the first time around was blow a bunch of shit up and walk away. We had a chance--a real chance--to do something meaningful/permanent about Iran this time around and we did... almost nothing. We punched the bully in the mouth and that made for some great TV, but they'll just be back. Again. And again. And again. Because we didn't make it so they, in their own words, feel themselves subdued.

Say it with me- Nobel prize.

Nobel prize.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday presented President Trump with a letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize after Trump pushed for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Netanyahu visited the White House on Monday, marking the first face-to-face meeting with Trump since the president ordered U.S. strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, a decision made in coordination with Israel’s bombing of key Iranian nuclear sites.
The prime minister pulled out the letter during a dinner with Trump and presented it to the president.

“The president has already realized a great opportunity. He forged the Abraham Accords. He’s forging peace as we speak in one country and one region after the other,” Netanyahu said. “So, I want to present to you, Mr. President, the letter I sent to the Nobel Prize committee. It’s nominating you for the peace prize, which is well deserved.”

“This I didn’t know,” Trump said as he took the letter. “Wow. Thank you very much. Coming from you in particular, this is very meaningful.”

I didn’t see anyone else talk about this, but Tucker Carlson recently had an interview with Iranian President Pezeshkian. He states that Iran is still willing to negotiate with the US on the nuclear issue, which is quite surprising given all that’s happened.

Of course he does, so he can rebuild.

After all that Iran's pulled, does anyone seriously think a "civilian" nuclear program won't be an excuse or cover for nuke weapons development? I don't trust Iran with tritium watches, I sure as hell wouldn't trust them with a nuke power plant.

Given the Ayatollah says the complete opposite and this is perfect timing for a little practice in taqiyya. I think we should still be dropping warheads on foreheads. And airdrop some weapons to any and all opposition groups. Might as well destabilize the rest of the region and hope for the best.
