Israel and Iran

I've seen footage of a C-295W that the Air Force is allegedly using. We've been using that platform for years. Good to see the biggest Air Force in the world using them as I think it gives some credence to their value.

The Drop-Site tweet in question is a follow-up from them quoting Jack Murphy saying the WSO was rescued. Maybe it's just the way I'm interpreting it, but with that context the tweet seems to be more showing that the Iranians are verifying the bombings were happening, not that they "caught the pilot".

That's not the part people are upset about. This is:

Right, I understand why people are upset. I'm saying that, in context, it reads that Kent is retweeting it because state media is confirming the bombings around the area are real, not because he thinks we were trying to kill the pilot.

ETA: I think a lot of people (generally) don't understand that reporting on what other countries say is not "spreading propaganda" in and of itself. This one was just reporting; stories claiming We have almost 1000 casualties and dozens of KIA started from propaganda.

I didn't take it that Kent was spreading propaganda, thats ridiculous. I think he's pointing out that the enemy is attempting to use propaganda.

Shout out to CNN for opining that striking infrastructure amounts to a war crime. They aren't calling out Iran's actions already committed, but saying if the US hits power plants it becomes a war crime.

It's tiring and I know the Left will never, ever let go of their obsession with Trump and trying to pin everything on him. I know that right, wrong, or other any move made by Trump and his admin. is automatically a crime worthy of jail or worse. I get it.

I'm not the biggest fan of some things the admin. has done. Far better than the other options? Of course. Things we didn't vote for or disagree with? Absolutely, that's life and dealing with people in general.

But Goddamn, give it a rest. It is so tiring that I see the complaints and hear the noise, but it is so tiring, so never ending, so... every fucking thing that I've tuned them out. I've done so a bit with the far Right, but not to the degree with the Left. Any valid argument they could make, if they are even capable of one, is ignored. The noise has rendered their arguments invalid and I auto-reject them out of hand now because of their crazy, hyperemotional actions. I can't be the only one tired of the schtick by both sides, but the Left is on a different plane. Have you ever worked in a warehouse? You know the "beep beep beep" of the backup on a forklift? If you hear that over and over every day it ceases to be a warning and becomes background noise. That's the Left's criticism of Trump to me.

Just shut the fuck up already. Beep beep beep beep...

How is blowing up a militarily viable target (bridge, power plant, etc…) ever a war crime? That we are allowing them to have electricity, or the internet for that matter is shocking to me.

I don’t enjoy the half measures. If we are going to bomb them, fucking bomb them, take out their entire grid, let them rebuild it later. Want to enrich uranium(supposedly?) good luck without any electricity nerds. Same for making drones, and missles. If it is gonna be an air war, be about it.

Those would be considered dual status targets under the Geneva Convention; at that point, they have guidelines about Proportional response.

Under that argument, another provision of Protocol I — the "principle of proportionality" — comes into play.

"You would still have to weigh the military advantage anticipated against the civilian harm your attack will cause," Sterio said. "When it comes to cutting off power for thousands or tens of thousands of individuals, it may be argued that the civilian harm outweighs the military advantage."
The specific type of infrastructure targeted might matter, too.

Kenneth Roth, a former executive director of Human Rights Watch, told CNN that desalination plants — which produce more than half the drinking water for U.S.-allied Qatar and Bahrain, though less for Iran — "are purely civilian infrastructure. There is no legal argument whatsoever for attacking them."

Other types of infrastructure, such as power plants, might be more legally justifiable as targets, depending on how extensive their military use is.

So the "War Crime" conversation is more about targeting ALL bridges, powerplants, and desalination plants in the country, not that any of them are being targeted. (At least the conversation from people who aren't dumb).

I don't think we'll destroy actually hit everything, because surely we learned during the GWOT how damaging civilian populations can backfire.

One thing for certain… Never again in the future will anyone have the right to criticize a sitting president for what they tweet or say publicly.

Crazy to basically say "we're about to commit a genocide."

Even as part of his normal "provocative" speech that's ridiculous.

The concept of "proportional response" is bullshit. I have always hated it. If a bully smacks me, I am not going to smack back 'just enough', I am going to beat the ever-living shit of him so he doesn't want to do anything to me ever again.

In other news, people on social media have absolutely lost their shit over the rescue; false-flag op to steal uranium gone wrong, etc.

Proportional response let's you smack the shit out of him back, it's saying you dont get to also go beat up his little sister.

This has always been the issue the West faces when taking on these radical Islamist regimes. Israel faced it in Gaza and now the IRGC is trying to replicate it in Iran.

One of the unfortunate side effects of trying to maintain a moral standard like the Law of Armed Conflict is that certain nations could not care less, and will actually attempt to weaponize our care for non-combatants against us.

I think that's a great point. These are two entirely separate cultures. How could we follow the law of armed conflict or engage in proportional response if they can't?
