Hey my name is Ryan Parker, I enlisted the 19th of November 2016. For my contract I decided on a llx with a option 40 and I hope ill get 11b and not 11c, just because I'm not into indirect fire. This is my last year in high school, and I ship out on July 26. I'm a big kid but I run every day and do the 1600 in track and field, also play football on the D line, so over high school I've been working out for sports. I'm a dedicated person who wants to prepare as much as I can both mentally and physically, which is why I want to be a member of this site.

Yeah, who wants to lug a mortar around. I think in the latter stage of OSUT you can name your preference but ultimately it's Needs of the Service. Always and Forever. Welcome and good luck.

Unfortunately this is not the case. Guys show up at 30th AG as 11x types and get told as a group they will be a Chuck cycle. A couple of my buddies I graduated with are running around post now trying to get their orders changed to Bravo before we ship out. They have met with mixed success... Sorry to derail the thread.

Sounds like you've got a good attitude. See about changing your name. It's better to stay anonymous on a public forum. Congrats on picking up the contract. Enjoy the end of school and don't get in trouble. I was in your position a few months ago so any questions feel free to DM me. Again good luck and keep on keeping on.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I was misled by this from

Indirect Fire Infantryman | Army.com

"Individuals don't enlist under a specific Infantry MOS. All interested in infantry are actually first assigned to 11X (meaning the Infantry MOS is yet to be decided). Enlistees attend Infantry OSUT (One Station Unit Training) -- combines Army Basic Training and Infantry AIT (Advanced Individual Training) in one 17-week course. During training, recruits designate their specific infantry job preferences, but assignments are ultimately determined by the needs of the US Army. At graduation, recruits are assigned to either Infantryman (11B) or Indirect Fire Infantryman (11C)."

The only recruits who get to "choose" are NG's while enlisting, it's put on your order's specifically, due to the MTOE and unit specific recruitment in the NG. It was my understanding that all RA recruits are 11X, and MOS (B or C, or H & M in my day) were based on needs of the Army. Nobody got a choice and it ultimately broke down to what platoon you were assigned to. All the 18X & opt 40 dudes were in our 1st plt, 2nd were all 11B, 3rd was 11C and 4th was 11H & 11M. There was some shuffling when it came time fore MOS specific training, but that was not realm by choice. But that was many moons ago, two of those MOS don't even exist anymore.

Rog that. When I went into the Corps nobody had a choice and nothing was guaranteed...not even all the poor "they-told-me-I-had-guaranteed-aviation" slobs when they found themselves humping 100lbs of gear in the jungle.

Sorry young Mr Parker if I got your hopes up.

hey thanks everyone for the advice and support. I have a question, how do I go about joining one of the mentor groups this site offers?

Well... apparently you did not fully read nor comprehend the "New Members Begin Here" thread... Bad Situational Awareness. If you go to the forums front page, and look in the Special Operations Area, you will see a sub forum titled "SOF Mentor Program", and at the top of each page is a tab in the upper most blue ribbon, at the area just left of center that says "Mentor Program".

I suggest you re-read the "New Members Begin Here" thread as a start, and then look at the other areas mentioned.

You need to work on your ability to get information from instructions, and follow instructions... You are Not off to an auspicious start, RASP (always capitalized, btw) is going to eat you alive if you can't follow the simple instructions here.

eta: Calling @DasBoot for some guidance to the young man... clean up on aisle 5....:wall:
