Maduro Captured

I was extensively quoted* today by ABC Australia, about the recent special operations mission in Venezuela.`

US says it now 'runs' Venezuela. Here's the key points to unpack

*ok it was literally less than one sentence, but still... ;)

I was under the impression that Maduro was indicted during the previous administration with what was originally a $25 million bounty. This article seems to make it an exclusive Trump administration thing. I've been touting this as a great example of bipartisanship... am I wrong?

He was indicted in 2020 in the final year of the first Trump administration and a $15M bounty was put on him. The Biden admin raised that to $25M. So… partially correct and it was (at least in my perception) agreed by both sides that he needed to go (Antony Blinken openly questioned the results of Maduro’s last election results) at least until one party (the current Trump admin) actually acted on that sentiment.

It keeps getting crazier and crazier.

There's a "shadow fleet" of at least 16 ships that were being tracked and suspected of attempting to avoid the embargo the US placed on Venezuela. However, this particular ship, Bella 1, was supposedly an empty Iranian tanker headed to Venezuela when it turned back in mid-December to avoid the Navy blockade.

The Coast Guard then begin chasing the ship (Why the USCG, you ask(or at least I asked)? Because they can carry out law enforcement tasks where the US Navy cannot). The tanker then reportedly changed it's registration to Russia. It now goes by the name Marinera. The USCG has chased it across the Atlantic and unsuccessfully attempted to board the ship several times.

The tanker is supposedly now in the North Atlantic and the Russian Navy sent a submarine and additional security/escort to the protect the ship as it sails toward a Russian port. A U.S. P-8 is now hunting the sub.

Now, this is just a wild guess, but maybe that Iranian tanker isn't empty...
