My Random TV Thread

I don’t watch houses being built that I’ll never live in, food being cooked I’m not going to eat, or the hope factory of The Voice, where contestants come from obscurity with a story of hope & suffering only to return to obscurity again.

Not NSFW Youtube, this might be the better place to put it. I happened upon Ron Livingston's video diary of the making of Band of Brothers. There are around 10 or 12, but they are only about 6 minutes each. Highly entertaining. BoB is probably one of my mostest favorite TV events, ever.

Anyone watching The World's Toughest Race on Amazon? It's the latest eco challenge in Fiji. Entertaining but I would prefer a more 'documentary' style than Survivor. My kids love it.

Yeah, it's been interesting. I still can't believe what some people do for "fun". And I know for the lay person playing rugby or racing Ironmans makes me look insane.

Having watched a lot of Survivor, this seems much more like the yearly Kona Ironman special where 60-70% is focused on the amateur athlete stories, which are somewhat contrived because some of them get selected by NBC and given entry to Kona without qualifying and the others who get featured qualified very early in the cycle. But you still see what goes on there.

Which is a smidge annoying for this specifically because you don't get to follow the tip of the spear teams that much.

Once upon a time--30 years ago--I would have been down for something 'like' this. Now, staring 52 in the face? Not so much. No shade to those older cats; they are awesome for trying, but there is a reason that at their age they are not performing well.

For 50-something teams, I agree it's annoying that they seem to focus on the same handful. I wish they would have given a few minutes in the beginning to more of the teams, then whittled the screen time to the leaders in the last couple episodes (except for the human interest teams, and why they dropped).

Watched it with the wife. Looked like bits of fun, with lots of crazy shit. The wife really enjoyed it but she's never done anything remotely like any piece of it.

LOL, my wife is horrified watching it, that people would do it. She enjoys it but doesn't understand why anyone would subject themselves to it. Her idea of 'glamping' is a Days Inn instead of the Hampton Inn. My boys, they want to do something like it. I am trying to talk them into a Spartan to start.

I know guys who do Ultra-Man and Also Deca-Triathlons. At those distances I do not understand what is going on or why someone would do it.

If I was still in my 20's or early 30's, I'd probably try it but now I ache just watching it.

I did sprint tri's when I was young, to see if I liked the sport enough to go all-out (I did not). I ran exactly one marathon. Of course, when I was in the mil I did a lot of stuff I probably otherwise would not have chosen to have done, but I really didn't have a choice. I do not see the appeal to those multi-day, body-suffering, high-probability-for-injury sports, especially now. Even young I would be like, "meh, that's cool..."

But that's not throwing shade at the people who do it. It's cool to do, cool to watch, and good on them for participating. Just not my bag.

I find it interesting, that's why I'm watching it. But it's like when Sports teams train with SF or SEALs or whatever. Done a lot of shit because I didn't have a say, don't think I'd hump a mountain in snowshoes again just for "fun".

Just finished up both Raised by Wolves and Lovecraft Country. Slow release, so only 3 initial episodes. Lovecraft Country has 4 now
