My Random TV Thread

Swamp Kings on Netflix about Urban Meyer's tenure as the coach of UF. Tebow and all of those dudes. Aaron Hernandez, was mentioned once or twice with about as many appearances. For you WWE fans, think of a less severe form of the Chris Benoit whitewashing.

It was a good series of 4 episodes, but it slowly transitions from documentary to rehabbing Urban Meyer's reputation. By the end it is still a good story, but more of a celebratory look back than a proper documentary.

The..."legal problems" of Meyer's team (and all of them. Hmmmm), covered about 10 minutes, if that, more of a nod to them for "balance" or whatever than actual content. The series could have easily had another episode or two in it, but that conflicts with the overall narrative. These were just good old boys, playing a game they love, mentored by the perfect dad/ coach.

Very entertaining, worth your time if you're a football fan, but don't expect it to go too deep into dark places.
Watched it last night. If the goal was to "rehab" Meyer's reputation (which I agree it was to some extent), I didn't work for me.

I respect Meyer even less as a coach for his approach; he bred a toxic culture. It was only OK because he had an incredibly talented team that won...and that's all he cared about. It is interesting Tebow came out of the program. That Meyer had "health issues" after loosing the SEC Championship is pathetic.

Agree it's worth a watch of you're into sports docu-series.

Have you watched the series on the Manziel train wreck? I saw enough of it but won't finish. That guy is even a bigger douche than I thought.

I grew up a Gators fan, so Spurrier's tenure was unreal, they finally had a football team. They would shit all over Spurrier later, but that's another discussion.

Meyer shows up and I'd mostly stopped following college ball by then. The Gators were winning, good. Then the legal problems started. At first, typical college football stuff, especially down south. Then case after case after case...Something ain't right. Got it.

Meyer quits (twice!) and it looked like shit was catching up to him. Needs to focus on his health and family? Heard this one before.

Then he signs with Ohio State in two years or less? What a toad. Goes to the NFL and what? Same problems with the club and his response is to treat them like a college team with his "toughness building" or whatever workouts. He was fired in his first season, but oddly enough still lives in J-ville. Dude has a history and it isn't good. I don't like the guy.

RE: Manziel, I didn't like him in college, didn't like him in the pros, but found his Netflix episode to be entertaining at least. He never matured past high school and it shows.

Ahsoka first two episodes are solid! don't fuck it up disney!

Agree. Despite some pacing issues, wobbly writing here and there, I think what I've seen so far is already much better than Mando S3, Boba and Obi Wan. I think it's actualy good that later episodes aren't as long. Sometimes less is more.

Something I disagree with though, is the stoic acting. Rosario Dawson and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are very good actresses. I have no clue why the producers decided to portray those characters like that. Compared to how lively and engaging they are in Rebels.

The show is Rebels Season 5 all but in name. So I wonder how casual viewers deal with it. Has lots of memberberries, but lacks exposition imo. For the wider audience. Like for example, they could have done a 2 min clip of what occured in the finale of Rebels S4 so people at least get a hint of why things are happening.

Smth SW writers need to also re-learn in that regard, is visual story telling and not just info-dumping via dialogue.

Anyone watching GEN V...?

So far so good... I might be wrong but it seems to be a prequel to the Boys.

in @AWP ratings, would recommend...5 out of 5 exploding whales!!!

:ROFLMAO:

I've seen one and a half episodes. I believe it is a sequel. Homelander is dead, Starlight is mentioned...and that Ashley chick is in charge, not still the secretary.

Keep up ;-)}:-)

Kathleen Kennedy still being the president of LucasFilm and this series not being completely botched is strange. But it's pretty good.

Ok....I watched another episode and now it makes sense. I saw Lizzy Shue and I just assumed incorrectly.....

Hemlock Grove, Netflix only I believe. Has anyone watched it?

Penny Dreadful on Showtime is pretty good too.

The Bridge Season 2 premiers tonight.

Summer TV tends to suck, but I've found a few to hold my interest. Any other series worth looking at?
Altered carbon is a pretty good Netflix series. I would recommend it if you like sci-fi.

Let's bang out a few, eh? All are on Netflix.
---
Messiah: Slow, confusing, slow...and slow. We passed after the first episode or maybe part of the second.
---
Anatomy of a Scandal: This one's a banger. Solid cast (Sienna Miller can act?), that assassin guy from Homeland, and some woman (Michele Dockery) from Downtown Abbey, all supported by good actors. Set in London, a Member of Parliament finds himself in a sex scandal that escalates. Miller is his wife struggling between supporting him and swallowing lie after lie, humiliation after humiliation. Dockery is a tough, formidable lawyer/barrister/whateverbecauseEngland for the Queen's Court. She prosecutes the PM, you have a trial, a really nifty twist or too, and a pretty good ending. Well worth your time. 4 out of 5 elevators.
---
Devil in Ohio: Normally a Deschanel sister in anything is an instant pass for me, but this one is really good in her role. There's a solid, well cast group of people you've never heard of handling business. A teen escapes a cult, is taken in by social worker Deschanel, and trouble slowly ramps up with the family. The cult wants the girl back and a semi-disgraced cop from a large city (Chicago) is in this tiny-ass town solving the case of wandering cult girl. That detective trope aside, the plot builds and builds nicely. It took an episode-ish to really get into, but it became a nice, steady burn with a few points of tension, and I really liked the ending. 3.5 out of 5 white roses.

Have you read the books?
No, I haven’t, but they sure look interesting. Might read them in the future.

Talking about altered carbon: were you disappointed with the ending (in the Netflix series). I was. Also, I kind of wish that they made more seasons, but also not, because of the ending.

Its taking place between The Boys seasons 3 & 4. Homelander is very much alive during Gen V and will prob remain a menace until the penultimate or final season of The Boys. This has already heavily deviated from the comics and they are gonna milk it dry. Not complaining. Imo the show is better.

Shorsey season 2 dropped on Hulu today.
Season 3 is already under production.

this is all very good!
Shoresy is far better than I expected it to be. I signed up for 20-minute episodes of Shoresy's shit-talking (and expected them to run out material 3-4 episodes in). I didn't expect to give a fuck about the team and the storyline, but they stuck the landing on that as well. All while creating all-new characters and setting. Well done.

Season 2 is just as good.
