My Random TV Thread

I just finished this up last night. It was "meh".

It just didn't feel particularly well written or executed; it definitely didn't feel "Tom Clancy". It felt kind of low budget and not all that creative. It's like they used all their budget and creativity on the opening credits, which makes watching the show a real let down (although it does kind of bother me during the opening credits that they showed the aircraft tach drcreasing while airspeed increases)

I'm OK suspending reality and just enjoying entertainment for entertainment's sake sometimes but this just felt kind of...stupid. It's what you'd expect some noodle-armed, soy boy in Hollywood to think what an action-thriller should look like.

And I diaagree with @RackMaster on this one. Casting Michael Pena as Chavez is a tough sell for me. That guy has the acting skills of a 2x4. Definitely not a tough guy. He doesn't even know how to hold/aim a rifle correctly.

Maybe I didn't like as much as I thought I did...🤷

I think they spent the whole budget on travel.

The deal with the analyst as action hero is that it sort of worked in the early Jack Ryan offerings—like Red October—because he knew he was out of his lane and acted like it. He rather accidentally got caught up in stuff and had to see it through.

And I agree about Peña. I’ve liked him in other things, but his role called for a total badass…and he just doesn’t evoke that image.

1883, as previously mentioned. Fucking awesome series.

My pops always told me I was born in the wrong eras. I believe, shit needs to be the way it was then.

One of the best scene's....

When Billy Bob Thornton plays Marshal Jim Courtright, murders the dudes responsible for the Trinity River killings of the crew.

His speech was awesome.

Sadly, finished the Diplomat, very entertaining series...unfortunately the 2nd season was only recently approved....and with the writers strike....I am anticipating a long wait....

That's Netflix, right? I thought they avoided the writers union. May not be as long as you think.

Anyone watching Lioness?

Yes. Only three episodes out right now, so I'll hold final judgment. But, I'm indifferent so far. It definitely carries the Sheridan feel, so there's that.

I don't like the character and/or actor Cruz/Oliveira. Saldana is on her game though, and I like her character. I'm hoping we get more of Kidman too.

So, yeah, I'm torn over how I feel about it.

This captures my thoughts as well.

I like the Sheeidan feel (which of course means some of the storyline is absurd, but that's OK) and some of the characters are...well, like you said... I'll withhold judgment for now, but I don't care for some if them. It's kind of a twist on the La Femme Nikita story.

Fisk, on Netflix. Australian series, kind of a combo of The Office and Kim's Convenience. HI-lareous. Worth watching.

None of them are actors, they're all comedians, breakfast radio presenters, tv presenters, it's bloody funny, Kitty Flannigan is a dag in real life, she's essentially playing herself.
If you can find Utopia, that's a very good ABC comedy too.

Anyone watching Lioness?

I will start once I finish Witcher. I have to rewatch the desert episode to see if I can understand it. The last few have confused my brain.

I finally finished The Blacklist. Red went out like a boss. News flash Jack Ryan take notes on how to end a series. It wasnt 1 or 2 episodes as the series finale. It was 22 episodes setting us up for the conclusion of 10 years of epic raids and failed plots all tied together by 1 FBI Informant out to live life to its fullest and focusing on what matters. Sprinkled in this season we found our agents helping solve MI6 cold cases as well as coaching those who need drug rehab. End state these last 10 years have been a roller coaster of emotions but it's time to move on...

@AWP Standing by for your much requested inputs.....

Started watching "Quaterback" on Netflix.

The series follows 3 NFL quarterbacks through the 2023/2023 season. They follow: Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs), Kirk Cousins (Vikings), and Marcus Mariota (Falcons).

The NFL has turned me off with all their b.s., so I haven't watched or paid close attention in a few years, but still like the game and have general "awareness".

That said, while nothing necessarily new or Earth shattering is revealed, the series still captured my interest. I'm about 3 or 4 episodes in. It's interesting to see the subtle differences, as well as well as similarities, in the approaches. Mahomes is an energetic, young leader. Cousins seems like a tough, methodical grinder (gained more respect for the guy). Mariota comes across as a quieter, almost tired veteran just going through the motions. That may or may not be accurate, but that's my early assessment.

Anyway, if you like football, it's been worth the watch so far.
