My Random TV Thread

Netflix now has all 11 seasons of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and man, I don't know why I stopped watching that show. I picked up at season 8 where I trailed off and its great.

I also trailed off. I'll go back to it.

Anyone watch Six?

Just, meh.

Thought the timing of the recent article of SEAL 6 was interesting considering the plot of the first episode.

SIX Full Episodes, Video & More | HISTORY

I watched the first episode and I knew it was going to be a semi shit-show when a 60 with no rocket pods used rockets to blow up a shack. Or when some guys on the team were rocking unsuppressed rifles at night time, while walking through the middle of a market. I feel like members of DEVGRU would be hugging the wall and everyone would have suppressed rifles. But what do I know, I don't operate, I support.

I just finished season one of Frontier, the new show Jason Momoa is starring in for Netflix/Discovery. I liked it. The first season is only six episodes, but it left excited for a second season. I would compare it to Vikings on History Channel except in 1700's Canada. If you liked Vikings, you'll probably like this. If you didn't, you might not fancy this show either.

Agreed! I watched it as it was first released on TV up here. It's great to see a realistic portrayal of early Canada. I didn't have great expectations, as most shows based on our history are pure garbage. But I was definitely proved wrong.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but Black Sails on Starz is surprisingly good. At first I thought they were just doing a shameless Vikings/GoT rip-off (although you could rip off worse shows) but it really sucks you in.

I think it does a really good job with historical accuracy in the sense the considerations, decisions, lives, and plot drivers fit into history - even though most of the events and characters didn't happen as described. Also, it does a really good job of showing how human interaction is weighted - how people emerge as leaders and followers. I thought the last show I saw that did it this well was Deadwood on HBO.

Watching the T.V. version of Training Day...I thought I was going to hate it, but the connected twist at the end may make it worthwhile.

They did make reference to the end of the movie, and an old friend shows up.

Potential, but it glorifies 'bad cops' so I have expect it to get Twitter'd out of being picked up for 2nd season.

Have I not posted about "The Young Pope" yet?

It is good.

There are many parallels that you just cannot miss to our current day and age.

Not TV, but If you are looking to spend some quiet time with the gal and watch a movie you can both enjoy, this is my recommendation. Be warned, it is a complete "chick flick"; nothing bad happens to any of the characters and it works out in the end like you expect it to.

That said, wifey loves the movie and I don't hate it. We've watched it two or three times a year since it came out.

Perfect after a stressful week of "whatever" when you just want to see some "good" happen to people.

@amlove21 some Nic Winding Refn is coming to Amazon.

Amazon Boards TV Crime Series From Nicolas Winding Refn (EXCLUSIVE)

Amazon is teaming up with “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn on new crime thriller, Variety has learned exclusively.

The drama, titled “Too Old To Die Young,” has been greenlit with a straight-to-series order with 10 episodes, according to sources. The show will shoot this fall in Los Angeles.

“Too Old To Die Young” explores the criminal underbelly of Los Angeles. The series is described as being in a similar vein to Refn’s Pusher trilogy, which looked at Danish criminals caught up in the drug trade. It explores various characters’ existential journeys from being killers to becoming samurai’s in the city of angels.

Watched "Hunted", almost by accident a couple weeks ago; saw the ads and thought YGTBSM. I'm now 3 episodes in. It's pretty entertaining for a reality type show. Worth checking out on CBS.

If you haven't seen the promos (which don't look very good), the premise:
* 9 (I think)couples/teams of two are given a 1 hour head start and must evade capture from "hunters" (LEOs, etc) for 28 days.
* They can travel anywhere in a 100,000 square mile area - 4 states (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Eastern Alabama)
* After first hour, "hunters" are given only name, photo, and last known location of "fugitives"
* "Fugitives" can enlist any help they need; they can and do tell accomplices it's part of a game show (it's not a secret)
* "Hunters" are former LEO's, mil, etc. and have access to same/similar technologies/resources
* Teams that evade capture for 28 days win $250,000

I started watching last night and finished episode 2. It's comical how quickly you can tell which teams are going to get caught nearly right off the bat.

Billions - It's back on, too early to get a good read out. It seems the dynamic between Axe and Wendy has changed!

The Blacklist - Liz and Team are running around like crazy trying to help Red against the latest Blacklister!

Taboo - Delaney befriends a crazy chemist as he is trying to protect his family and his claim as everyone wants him dead!!!

Homeland - Carrie is still kraykray and back to her old games....which is entertaining!!!

Looking forward to this. I thought 'only god forgives' was a misfire with a couple of good scenes but Valhalla Rising and Drive are awesome.

Very different genre but I think Catastrophe on Amazon is good and Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix was surprisingly entertaining.
MAN I loved 'Only God Forgives'!

I think that I just might like his work that much stylistically that I overlooked some plot/story missteps in that one, but crap, I loved that movie. One of my sleeper 'top 10's'.

I couldn't get into Santa Clarita Diet. I thought it was poorly produced, and I couldn't stand Drew Barrymore.

Just finished Luke Cage last night. What a good series. I hope they make a second one. Debating between Homeland and Jessica Jones next.
