Wife and I binged every available episode of Gotham over the past few weeks, I really like that show and dig how they went dark with it. Definitely not a kids show, but very entertaining and the casting was freaking spot on for almost every character portrayed. After being so impressed with that DC offering, we decided to give another DC show a shot. Arrow appears to have been doing well over the past few years, so we settled on that. Horribly disappointing, and we even gave the first three episodes a shot after not really liking the first, but it just never clicked for us.
I tried Netflix's Holmes a shot. It was just ok, didn't really make me want to keep watching though. It's well done and the writing is decent, I guess it was just missing the "it" factor for me.
I finally watched Cartel Land on Netflix. I knew I was going to like it, and I was right. Absolutely incredible documentary filmmaking in my opinion. I would highly recommend it.
Wife and I went to the movies to watch Amy Schumer's Snatched. There were a few funny parts, but it wasn't a gut busting comedy like I had hoped. I also was really irritated after some extreme feminism was injected into the jungle village scene in the 2nd act. Just gave me a bad taste in my mouth I guess.
We went and saw Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and it didn't disappoint. I really liked the first installment, and was nervous about the second effort, but they did a great job of capturing the nostalgia and light hearted fun that was found in the first movie. If I had to do a side by side comparison, I'd probably still prefer the first one, but that's nothing against Volume 2. A fun watch, if that's what you're looking for.
Finally, the Academy award winning Beasts Of No Nation. I had been avoiding watching it because I knew it was going to be tough, but finally made the time to watch it. It was up there with some of the hardest movies I've ever watched. Incredible story though, and the filmmakers deserve every bit of recognition they received last awards season. I highly recommend it, but just know going in that - especially if you're a parent - it's going to be rough viewing in certain parts.
