My Random TV Thread

Just watched the first couple episodes of "The Man in the High Castle".

It's an Amazon produced series based on the book by Philip K. Dick which depicts at alternate history where the Axis powers won World War II. The series is set in the "U.S." about 15 years after the end of the war. The country is split between the Japanese on the West and the Germans in the East with a neutral zone between the two.

Only a couple episodes in, so it's early in the series, but is done pretty well so far; enough so that I am getting sucked in.

Fresh of the Boat on Hulu is hilarious. Really want to marry a woman like the Jessica character, the shenanigans that she gets into while raising their kids is too funny. Love the Costco episode.

I started The Handmaids Tale. The show is really good.
My wife was raving about it, and we are set to binge watch the 5 episodes out there tomorrow.

Single guys and gals- take note. There is a not so distant future where you and your spouse plan on wasting 6 hours of time the next day because "1930 is too late to get in to this."

Wife and I binged every available episode of Gotham over the past few weeks, I really like that show and dig how they went dark with it. Definitely not a kids show, but very entertaining and the casting was freaking spot on for almost every character portrayed. After being so impressed with that DC offering, we decided to give another DC show a shot. Arrow appears to have been doing well over the past few years, so we settled on that. Horribly disappointing, and we even gave the first three episodes a shot after not really liking the first, but it just never clicked for us.

I tried Netflix's Holmes a shot. It was just ok, didn't really make me want to keep watching though. It's well done and the writing is decent, I guess it was just missing the "it" factor for me.

I finally watched Cartel Land on Netflix. I knew I was going to like it, and I was right. Absolutely incredible documentary filmmaking in my opinion. I would highly recommend it.

Wife and I went to the movies to watch Amy Schumer's Snatched. There were a few funny parts, but it wasn't a gut busting comedy like I had hoped. I also was really irritated after some extreme feminism was injected into the jungle village scene in the 2nd act. Just gave me a bad taste in my mouth I guess.

We went and saw Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and it didn't disappoint. I really liked the first installment, and was nervous about the second effort, but they did a great job of capturing the nostalgia and light hearted fun that was found in the first movie. If I had to do a side by side comparison, I'd probably still prefer the first one, but that's nothing against Volume 2. A fun watch, if that's what you're looking for.

Finally, the Academy award winning Beasts Of No Nation. I had been avoiding watching it because I knew it was going to be tough, but finally made the time to watch it. It was up there with some of the hardest movies I've ever watched. Incredible story though, and the filmmakers deserve every bit of recognition they received last awards season. I highly recommend it, but just know going in that - especially if you're a parent - it's going to be rough viewing in certain parts.

I started watching Gotham when it first aired but stopped due to lack of time. A week ago I started binging it on Netflix and finished the first season last night. It's one of the best "prequels" I've seen in a long time.

I've also gotten sucked into an excellent show on History that you all will probably enjoy. :-";-) JFK Declassified - Tracking Oswald, there's someone that looks very familiar in it.

Knocked out both seasons of the Last Kingdom, pretty solid stuff there. Also did the docu-series Roman Empire Reign of Blood covering Comodus:

Mostly knocked out all of the West Wing, again, crazy how relevant the writing is today with that show.

Netflix Recommendation:

"Fauda" is a contemporary series about an Israeli counter terrorism unit operating in the West Bank. It is really well done.
Sadly only 12 episodes.

Unless you are able to channel your inner Ziva David, you will have to tolerate the subtitles as it is primarily in Hebrew and Arabic. Absolutely worth it though in my opinion.
