Jack Ryan was always a Marine officer, at one time the books have him as an Annapolis graduate, another time he commissioned through OCS. The book Jack Ryan was never in any combat campaigns and injured in a training helicopter crash. Timelines shifted a bit for the show, which is cool.

Jack turned into a killer, he doesn't date "OK LOOKING" women like Cathy anymore. He sleeps with hot spies and takes down corrupt politicians. Besides he doesn't need her to defeat the Venezuelan government, he only needs a shipping container full of goodies to prove his theory. When you live a life being right, you're just always right.....
